I was seven months pregnant when a hospital security guard called me to the parking garage. My silver car had been completely vandalized with broken windows and flat tires. Insulting words were scratched into the hood and my unborn baby car seat was ripped apart. Detective Sarah Morrison arrived and we reviewed the security footage together. The video clearly showed my husband assistant Brittany Kane destroying my property and smiling for photos. I immediately called my husband Derek but he only expressed annoyance instead of concern for my safety.
When I returned home Derek admitted his affair with Brittany began in January right before I got pregnant in February. He tried to minimize her actions and make excuses for her terrible behavior. I realized he had been lying to me for months while spending our money on his mistress. Because my father is Police Commissioner Robert Sullivan he was immediately notified about the crime. My father and mother helped me understand that Brittany was the daughter of Derek business partner Richard Kane. This was not just an affair but a calculated scheme to take my inherited three million dollar home.
I hired divorce attorney Jonathan Graves and quickly filed for divorce with a demand for full custody and a restraining order. Brittany was arrested and the news of her vandalism became public. She foolishly violated the restraining order by sending me a threatening message which sent the police right back to her apartment. My lawyer and father uncovered that Derek and Richard were secretly trying to use my house to fund a luxury real estate project. Derek realized his business was ruined and offered a settlement giving me everything I wanted to avoid financial charges. Brittany was convicted and sentenced to eighteen months in jail.
Three days after receiving an apology letter from Brittany in jail my daughter Grace Sullivan Harper was born. She was completely healthy and her arrival made all the previous chaos fade away. Derek only visited Grace a few times before fading out of our lives entirely. He lost his reputation and his business while his partner project completely collapsed. I returned to my job as a nurse and raised my daughter with the support of my family. I stopped seeing myself as a victim and realized I had successfully saved myself and my child.
