Our motorcycle club ate breakfast at the same diner every Saturday where a quiet waitress named Melissa served us. We eventually noticed she was hiding bruises under long sleeves and acting extremely fearful while working. Our sergeant at arms Bear and club president Danny realized something was terribly wrong and asked her about her physical injuries. Melissa tearfully admitted that her former husband Kyle Pruitt had been heavily harassing her for eight months. She had filed fourteen separate police reports about his aggressive behavior but the authorities repeatedly claimed they could not help her without further evidence. We decided as a united club that we could not simply ignore her desperate situation.
Twelve of us rode to her house that evening and waited on her front porch to ensure she remained perfectly safe. Kyle soon arrived and became completely enraged when he found our group blocking his access to the residential property. He aggressively confronted us and eventually threw a physical punch at Danny before we safely restrained him on the ground. Danny immediately contacted emergency services to report the protective order violation and the physical assault. When the officers arrived Kyle completely changed his demeanor and falsely claimed that we had violently attacked him without any provocation. The police believed his fabricated story over our truthful accounts and arrested all twelve of us on several serious charges.
We hired our regular attorney Pete Vasquez who quickly pointed out that the police had completely ignored the fourteen previous harassment reports. After we posted a combined bail of twenty four thousand dollars we returned to her home to install several hidden security cameras. Three nights later those new cameras perfectly captured Kyle returning to the property and aggressively trying to break inside while making severe threats. Pete immediately submitted this undeniable video evidence to the local prosecutor which resulted in all of our criminal charges being completely dropped. Furthermore the authorities finally arrested Kyle and charged him with multiple serious offenses including stalking and violating his mandatory restraining order.
Faced with the overwhelming video evidence Kyle accepted a legal plea deal that included jail time and a mandate to relocate entirely outside the county. A month later Melissa visited our clubhouse and emotionally presented us with a simple grocery store cake to express her deep gratitude. Bear assured her that she owed us absolutely nothing because we simply did what anyone should have done to protect someone in need. Today she still serves our weekend coffee with a genuine smile and is currently studying to become a professional paralegal to help others. We technically still have that arrest on our permanent records but every man in our club wears that specific memory with immense pride.
