6:55 p.m., Pacific Time — Following Pete Rose’s loss, Major League Baseball issued a statement expressing their sympathies to Rose’s family, friends, and those “who admired his greatness, grit, and determination on the field of play.” The statement was made after Pete Rose passed away.
TMZ Sports has confirmed that Major League Baseball icon Pete Rose has passed away at the age of 83.
Rose, the most successful player in the history of Major League Baseball, passed away earlier today at his residence in Las Vegas, where he was discovered by a member of his family.
The information was verified by Ryan Fiterman, who works for Fiterman Sports and is also the agent for Pete. He added that “the family is asking for privacy at this time.”
No one knows what caused Pete’s loss at this time. The Clark County Medical Examiner (NV) has the corpse of Rose, and they are going to do an autopsy on it this week.
On Sunday afternoon, Pete was present at a meet-and-greet that was hosted by the Fiterman Sports Group in Nashville. It was reported to us that Rose was confined to a wheelchair, but this was just because his back was in pain. It seemed as if he was in a pleasant mood as he took photographs and signed autographs for a large number of people.
Even more impressively, Rose snapped a picture with his colleagues from the Big Red Machine, including Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Tony Perez, and Ken Griffey Sr.
Pete, who was given the moniker “Charlie Hustle” because to his dogged play, was one of the best baseball players to ever grace a field. He was nominated for 17 All-Star Games, won three World Series championships, and was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the National League in 1973.
Pete had an incredible total of 4,256 hits throughout the course of his career, which spanned 24 seasons. No other player in the history of Major League Baseball, which spans more than 100 years, had more hits than Pete.
With 3,562 games played, 15,890 at-bats, and 14,053 plate appearances, Rose was the most prolific player in Major League Baseball.
Rose was a highly versatile player on the field, as he was able to play first base, second base, third base, and the outfield throughout his career.
Pete played for the Cincinnati Reds for the bulk of his storied career, but he also played for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos. After that, he went back to Cincinnati and finished his career as a player-manager.
In 1986, Rose completed his career as a footballer and put up his spikes for good.
It goes without saying that Rose was not free of controversy. As a result of the league’s determination that he would gamble on baseball, Major League Baseball Commissioner Bart Giamatti banned him from playing the sport in 1989.
Pete eventually acknowledged to betting on baseball in the middle of the 2000s, after first denying that he had done so for a number of years.
“The Reds are heartbroken to learn of the passing of baseball legend Pete Rose,” said the organization in response to Pete’s demise. “The Reds are heartbroken.”
In spite of the fact that Rose was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the game, Major League Baseball did not overturn the lifelong ban that he had been given.
Now that Pete has passed away, it is uncertain whether or not he will finally be able to enjoy the spot in Cooperstown that is rightfully his.
