Malia Obama, 25, debuted a new moniker as she began her Hollywood career

Malia Obama, the adult daughter of former First Lady and President Barack and Michelle Obama, is secretly pursuing a different career path; she even changed her name.

The Heart, the 25-year-old’s directorial debut, was just shown at the Sundance Film Festival.

Unexpectedly, her family’s surname was left out of the movie’s credits.

Born on July 4, 1998, Malia Ann Obama took on her middle name in memory of her paternal grandmother, who passed away in 1995 at the age of 52 due to ovarian cancer. After graduating from Harvard and growing up in the spotlight as the President’s daughter, Malia made the decision to pursue a career in screenwriting.

For her most recent project, The Heart, which she directed and wrote the screenplay for, Malia adopted the alias Malia Ann. Malia adored her film’s debut and made a stunning appearance on the festival’s red carpet earlier this year.

Malia has attempted her hand at filming before, albeit this is her first cinematic endeavor. In 2021, she was part of the writing team for the series Swarm, which subsequently debuted on Amazon Prime. Swarm, which featured well-known actors including Billie Eilish and Rory Culkin, had a bright beginning to her career.

“Although some of her pitches were absurd, they were still incredibly amazing and captivating.” Malia is a talented writer, according to co-creator of Swarm Janine Nabers, who spoke with E! Online. “She made noteworthy contributions. She is genuinely dedicated to her craft.

Executive producer Stephen Glover of Swarm was keen to note out that Malia received the same treatment as the rest of the creative team, despite her well-known ancestry.

He told Vanity Fair, “We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] President’s daughter.” No, she is incredibly cool and grounded. Thus, it’s not at all problematic.

In addition to wishing their daughter Malia a happy 25th birthday, Barack and Michelle Obama openly showed their enjoyment for her.

Barack posted on Instagram, “Happy birthday to this talented, hilarious, and beautiful young woman.” “I hope 25 brings you everything you want and more, Maalia.”

Michelle wrote, “Happy birthday, Malia! “, echoing her husband’s remarks. Being your mother and being able to watch you grow into the incredible young woman you are makes me feel incredibly privileged. 💕 I adore you so much!

It’s clear that a great career is ahead for Malia Obama and Malia Ann, the President’s daughter and a budding Hollywood screenwriter and director!
