A Modern Love Story

Daughter texted Dad: Daddy, I’m coming home to get married shortly, so get your checkbook ready. LOL! As you know, I am in Australia, and he is in the United States. We met on a dating website, became friends on Facebook, and had lengthy conversations on WhatsApp. He proposed to me over Skype, and we now have a two-month romance via Viber. Dad, I need your blessing, good wishes, and a very large wedding. Lots of love, Lilly.

Dad’s response: My dear Lilly. Like, Wow! Really? Cool! Whatever… I recommend you two get married on Twitter, have fun on Tango, register for your stuff on Amazon, and pay for everything with PayPal. When you’re fed up with your new husband, sell him on eBay. Lots of love, Dad Dad is the Funnyman! Dear Lilly, Haha! You never stop surprising me, my beautiful daughter. I cannot believe you are getting married! My checkbook may require some warming up, but I am prepared for this new chapter in your life.

It’s incredible how love has no bounds now. You and your soon-to-be spouse have fully embraced the digital age. Your journey has been unique, beginning with finding each other on a dating site and progressing to becoming Facebook friends and then exchanging endless poignant talks on WhatsApp. Who would have guessed Skype and Viber would play such important parts in your budding romance?

Now, onto the wedding preparations! While conventional weddings have their appeal, why not incorporate a modern twist? How about a Twitter wedding? It’ll be a one-of-a-kind wedding, with all of your friends and followers joining you on this trip. You can even have fun on Tango, dancing to your favorite songs while the virtual celebrations continue.
