Why Walking Off A Private Jet Was My Best Life Decision

Posted on October 21, 2026 By Andrew Wright

Once inside the terminal I called my attorney Rebecca Hollowell who had represented my family for almost a decade. I instructed her to begin a comprehensive review of all agreements with Whitmore Technologies including the financing commitments and the patent licenses. Rebecca had encouraged me to examine these arrangements for nearly a year but I had repeatedly postponed the process to protect my marriage. I clarified that I would no longer offer automatic corporate support without independent negotiations. My phone rang with messages from Grant demanding to know what I was trying to prove and I replied that I was finally remembering where I belonged. After returning to my apartment I reviewed legal documents while Grant landed in Arizona to find three formal notices waiting for his legal team. He called me in a panic complaining that I was making him look ridiculous in front of his leadership team. I reminded him of how he had treated me earlier that day and dismissed his assumption that my actions were about his assistant. I wanted him to understand that my personal kindness was never meant to be an unlimited business agreement.

Grant returned home two days earlier than planned and found my attorney sitting in our living room with corporate documents. Rebecca formally explained that several patent licenses and financing commitments required immediate independent negotiation. Grant realized I was no longer willing to provide his company with unlimited access to my family resources and asked what would happen to our marriage. Over the following week the board of directors reviewed the financial relationships and several members contacted me to express gratitude for my historical support. For the next three months Grant tried repeatedly to repair our relationship while continually apologizing for letting Tessa sit beside him. I explained that he was focusing on the wrong issue because the problem was his gradual erasure of my contributions. Three months after the flight I filed for a private divorce to ensure a fair resolution. Six months later I returned to Teterboro Airport traveling to Austin for the launch of a new technology investment initiative. Nathaniel greeted me warmly and offered my usual seat near the front window but I politely declined. As the aircraft departed I realized I was traveling as a completely independent woman building her own remarkable future.
