JOKE OF THE DAY: A travel agent was sitting at his desk

A travel agent was sitting at his desk, the fluorescent office lights humming softly as he reviewed his sales for the week. It had been a great one—a true success—and a feeling of contentment settled over him. Just then, he happened to glance up and notice an elderly couple standing outside his shop. They were gazing with a quiet intensity at the vibrant posters of tropical beaches and majestic mountain ranges that adorned his storefront window.

The couple, a man and a woman, had a sweet, gentle look about them. Yet, there was also a hint of sadness, or perhaps a deep sense of longing, in their eyes. They seemed to be dreaming of a world they couldn’t quite reach, a quiet heartbreak that anyone with a kind heart could spot.

Moved by their appearance and his own good fortune, the agent felt a wave of genuine kindness wash over him. He knew that for many people, especially those living on a fixed income, the dream of a grand vacation often had to remain just that—a dream. He acted on impulse, rushing outside and inviting them into his cozy, travel-filled office.

“Listen,” he began, his voice warm and sincere, “I know travel isn’t easy on a pension, but I’ve had a wonderful week in business, and I’d like to share that good fortune with you both. I want to treat you to a luxury vacation—my treat. No strings attached. Just say yes.”

The couple was stunned. Their faces, which had held such a wistful expression just moments before, now lit up with pure joy and disbelief. It was an offer they simply couldn’t refuse. With tears welling in their eyes, they gratefully accepted his incredible gift. The agent was thrilled to be able to help and immediately had his assistant book two first-class plane tickets and a deluxe room at a breathtaking five-star resort in a beautiful, exotic location.

About a month later, the little old lady walked into the travel agency again. Her face was glowing, and she had a wide, happy smile that could light up the entire room.

“How was the trip?” the agent asked eagerly, excited to hear about their adventure.

“Oh, it was just lovely!” she exclaimed. “The flight was wonderful, and the hotel was like something out of a dream.” She went on to describe the crystal-clear water and the perfect weather, and how they had been treated like royalty. “I came to say thank you… but I do have one question.”

The agent, intrigued, raised an eyebrow. “Sure, what is it?”

She leaned in close, her eyes twinkling mischievously, and whispered, “Who was that old man I had to share the room with?”

The agent burst out laughing, completely caught off guard. It was a perfectly timed punchline to a beautiful story of kindness.
