I now swear by this trick!

Posted on October 3, 2025 By Andrew Wright

The kitchen is often called the heart of the home, and nothing feels better than walking into a spotless space where every surface shines.

But let’s be honest—one of the most dreaded chores is scrubbing oven racks.

Over time, grease and baked-on food form a stubborn layer that feels nearly impossible to remove.

Luckily, my nana passed down a brilliantly simple trick that gets oven racks sparkling clean with almost no effort at all!

This method is a true game-changer. Forget about harsh chemicals or endless scrubbing—this hack lets you restore your racks to like-new condition while you sleep. Curious? Here’s how it works.

What You’ll Need

  • A bathtub or large plastic tub
  • Hot water
  • One dishwasher tablet

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Remove the racks: Make sure your oven is cool, then carefully take out the racks.

2. Set up your cleaning station: Place the racks in your bathtub or large tub, ensuring they’ll fit fully submerged.

3. Add hot water: Fill the tub with enough hot water to cover the racks completely. The hotter the water, the better the results.

4. Drop in a dishwasher tablet: Just one tablet is enough to cut through layers of grease and grime.

5. Soak overnight: Let the racks sit in the solution overnight. No scrubbing, no effort—the tablet does the hard work for you.

6. Rinse and dry: In the morning, simply rinse off the racks. The baked-on mess will wipe away easily. Dry them with a clean towel and return them to your oven.

And that’s it! With barely any effort, you’ll have gleaming oven racks that look brand new. My nana’s hack is proof that sometimes the simplest tricks really are the best. Try it for yourself—you’ll never dread cleaning your oven again.
