While cycling with a friend, 58-year-old Paul Skinner spotted movement in a ditch that made him slam on his brakes. As he approached, he discovered a tired and nearly lifeless cocker spaniel—clearly abandoned.
The dog had a plastic bag clutched in her mouth. When Paul looked inside, the sight made his heart drop.
“The bag contained four dead puppies. It was heartbreaking. She had tears in her eyes. I could not believe anyone could be so devoid of humanity,” Paul told Metro.

The dog, later named Carly, was found in Lincolnshire, England. She had been sitting alone, licking the contents of what appeared to be a fish-and-chips carrier bag. With no owners in sight, Paul immediately called a local animal shelter and rescue volunteers.
Unfortunately, the puppies were already gone. A veterinarian estimated they had likely been born that same day and may have still been alive when abandoned in the bag.
Authorities confirmed that Carly had a microchip, which traced her back to the original breeder, but she had clearly been mistreated by her previous owner.
Thankfully, Carly was taken into the care of the Fen Bank Greyhound Sanctuary. She recovered physically and emotionally, showing incredible maternal instinct despite her tragic loss. Her strength and love stand as a testament to the resilience and compassion of animals.
Today, Carly is safe, cared for, and loved—hopefully to welcome new, happy puppies in the future. Her story reminds us why standing up for animals and treating them with kindness is so important.
