Bernadette arrived at our hospital the following morning demanding to take the recovering child home immediately while completely lacking any basic human empathy. We firmly refused to release the vulnerable patient and strictly prioritized her ongoing medical recovery over the hostile demands of her relative. Owen managed to secure official emergency military leave and arrived at our medical facility exactly four days after our initial telephone conversation. Seeing his young child safely recovering in the hospital bed brought him to immediate tears of profound relief. He openly shared his personal bank records with our staff proving his consistent financial support and showed us a digital photograph his sister had sent him to justify the recent medical expenses. However he quickly realized the photograph was heavily outdated because the stuffed rabbit in the picture still had both of its original ears perfectly intact whereas the actual toy had lost part of an ear many months ago. During a private administrative meeting away from the pediatric ward Owen firmly confronted his deceitful sister about her deliberate deceptions. Bernadette offered only incredibly weak excuses regarding her own personal financial difficulties and could not properly explain why she ignored the desperate text messages.
Consequently Owen submitted a formal military report to thoroughly investigate her suspicious financial transactions and her severe lack of proper adult supervision. Meanwhile I submitted a highly detailed internal hospital incident report regarding the completely unacceptable two and a half hour delay in the young patient receiving her initial emergency medical triage. After nine days of careful medical treatment the young patient was finally healthy enough to be officially discharged from our facility. Owen received extended military permission to remain home for several vital weeks while he actively requested a new professional assignment that would keep him stationed closer to his family. During a routine follow up medical appointment several months later I had the wonderful opportunity to speak directly with the fully recovered child once again. I had previously taken a few quiet moments to carefully sew a brand new blue fabric ear onto her beloved stuffed rabbit which brought her immense joy. She looked thoughtfully at our prominent hospital mission statement displayed on the wall and expressed her sincere hope that no other sick child would ever have to wait entirely alone for medical help as she bravely did.
