Undercover CEO Uncovers Cruel Staff Behavior While Traveling With Her Daughter

Posted on October 8, 2026 By Andrew Wright

After enduring a grueling nine hour journey from Denver to Chicago, I arrived at the Grand Regent hotel carrying my sleeping six year old daughter named Lily and a bouquet of slightly damaged red roses. Tomorrow marked exactly three years since my husband Daniel passed away from cancer, and the roses were meant for our annual tradition of sharing fond memories of him. My worn brown leather jacket and exhausted appearance clearly gave the two reception desk workers a poor impression of my financial status and background. A receptionist named Patrick took one look at my casual clothes and dismissed my claim of having a reservation under the name Clara Vance. He casually lied about the hotel being completely sold out due to a corporate gala in the ballroom and suggested I take my sleeping child to a cheap highway motel down the road. Another front desk worker named Karl found the entire situation amusing and audibly chuckled at my insistence that I had a room waiting for me. Both men stood beneath a marble engraving of my own company motto regarding guest visibility, completely unaware that I was the founder of the very hospitality group that owned their building.

My quiet observation of their disrespect was unexpectedly interrupted when a housekeeper named Lupita emerged from a service door and noticed my distress. Despite Patrick and Karl displaying open hostility toward her for interfering with front desk operations, Lupita gently instructed Patrick to check the secondary corporate booking tab on his computer. Patrick reluctantly followed her directions and instantly lost all the color in his face when the system revealed my confirmed reservation for executive Suite 904. He quickly tried to blame the booking system for the error, but I firmly reminded him that his failure was due to making assumptions about me before actually checking his screen. Karl suddenly pretended to be busy with another computer while Patrick nervously prepared my keycards, attempting to act as though he had simply made a minor administrative mistake. Lupita kindly carried my heavy backpack to the elevators for me, showing the exact type of genuine hospitality that my company was founded upon. As the elevator doors closed to take me to the ninth floor, I heard Karl make one final cruel remark to Patrick about my supposed desire to cause a scene in the lobby.

Once inside the beautiful suite overlooking downtown Chicago, I gently tucked Lily into bed alongside her favorite stuffed rabbit and took a moment to arrange the damaged red roses in a vase with Lupita. After Lupita left to continue her shift, I sat alone in the quiet room and compiled a detailed list of every employee action I had witnessed, keeping in mind my late husband Daniel and his wise advice to always investigate situations thoroughly before passing judgment. A brief nighttime awakening from Lily revealed that she had heard the receptionists being cruel, forcing me to explain to my young child how some adults make terrible assumptions based on outward appearances. The next morning, I left Lily with our trusted childcare provider Marisol and went downstairs in my same casual clothing to speak directly with the general manager of the property named Robert Haines. Robert attempted to brush off the previous night as a simple technical issue, confidently defending his staff until I placed my corporate identification badge on the marble counter. I watched his confident demeanor shatter completely as he realized he was speaking to the chief executive and founder of Vance Hospitality Group.
