My name is Rufus and I am a fifty five year old man from Indiana who works in freight logistics. My greatest pride is my twenty five year old daughter Emily who is currently seven months pregnant with my first grandchild. Emily and I survived a terrible tragedy a decade ago when her mother Sarah passed away from cancer. Years passed as Emily graduated from college and built a beautiful life with her new husband. When she planned to visit me recently I proudly prepared our guest room with a comfortable new bed and a baby crib. I was supposed to be out of the country for a work trip but my meetings concluded early and I returned home close to midnight. I woke her gently and she tearfully explained that Linda had claimed all the rooms were taken and forced her to sleep on the floor. After comforting Emily I checked the guest room and confirmed it remained completely untouched and perfectly ready for a guest. The following morning I purchased a box of black trash bags and handed them to Linda in the kitchen wrapped in a cheap ribbon. When her eager smile dropped I plainly informed her and Jesse that they had exactly three days to pack their belongings and move out. Linda desperately tried to excuse her cruel behavior by calling the situation a simple misunderstanding. I immediately shut down her lies by stating that I had seen the empty guest room and recognized her toxic jealousy. We stood our ground over the next few tense days until Linda and Jesse finally left the house in complete silence.
The house finally felt peaceful again as Emily rested comfortably in the exact guest room her stepmother had tried to deny her. She expressed her deep gratitude and I assured her that I would always be there to protect her. I filed for divorce the following week and felt nothing but profound relief even as Linda attempted to spread false stories to our acquaintances. Emily stayed with me for a few more weeks while we happily prepared for the baby before her husband arrived to take her home.
