Mississippi Mud Cake Recipe

A Southern classic that’s rich, gooey, and absolutely irresistible.

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
All-purpose flour 1 cup
Mini marshmallows ½ cup
Confectioners’ sugar 16 oz
Whole milk ½ cup
Unsalted butter ½ cup
Unsweetened cocoa powder ¼ cup
Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
Your favorite chocolate cake batter (See Step 1)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
Prepare your favorite chocolate cake batter. In a small bowl, mix 1 cup flour with ½ cup mini marshmallows, then fold that mixture into the batter. Pour everything into the prepared pan.

Step 2: Bake
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool completely in the pan.

Step 3: Make the Icing
In a saucepan, combine 16 oz confectioners’ sugar, ½ cup whole milk, ½ cup butter, and ¼ cup cocoa powder.
Cook over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Step 4: Assemble
Pour the warm icing evenly over the cooled cake. Let it set for about 30 minutes until slightly firm on top.

Step 5: Serve & Enjoy
Slice into squares and serve. The result? A fudgy, marshmallow-studded chocolate dream that melts in your mouth.


Pro Tip:
For an extra indulgent version, sprinkle chopped pecans or drizzle melted chocolate over the icing before it sets.
