Yvonne Craig (1937–2015) was an American actress and ballet dancer best known for playing Batgirl in the 1960s Batman TV series. Born in Illinois and raised in Ohio, she trained as a ballerina before turning to acting, with early roles in Gidget (1959) and It Happened at the World’s Fair (1963) alongside Elvis Presley. Her breakout came in 1967 as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, making her one of TV’s first female superheroes.
